I offer spelling bee coaching to spellers aspiring to do well in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. In my 4+ years as a speller, I’ve gained immense knowledge about words and how they are structured, as well as an approach of studying words that warrants longer memory and a more thorough understanding of the words being studied. My classes are designed to give a holistic understanding of words, with a focus on homonyms, exceptions, language diving, confusing words, and roots. I also help my students group confusing words together and distinguish them. Leading up to bees, I work with students to create a game plan detailing resources to study and lists to make and master. I follow up with my students weekly to check on their progress with the study plan. Having attended and won all the major national spelling bees, I also share study strategies and provide recommendations tailored to the student’s needs and their upcoming bees. I also incorporate vocabulary into my classes so students understand the words better. Though each session is personalized based on the student’s individual strengths and weaknesses, I can guarantee that my students will walk out of each session a better speller with a better understanding of words.
